Greg Skoglund's B-17
4/23/2019 Greg Skoglund's Flying Fortress he painted in the scheme of the "Dinah-mite". Greg's father was assigned to the ground crew of this B-17 in WWII. Greg has an old, hard to see photo of his dad on a ladder painting the Vargas Girl nose art. The nose art was from a January '45 calendar page which Greg has in a scrapbook.
There is a good story of the radio operator, Sabatine Branco, by his son on the 487th Bomb Group's web site. In the story on page 2 photo 2 Greg's father is standing under the nose of the plane . He is on the left in the white shirt. http://www.487thbg.org/Stories/SJB.shtml
Greg always wanted a B-17 and grabbed this one at the Texarkana swap meet a few months back. It was really dirty with mud dauber nests in the engines, got it all cleaned up and repainted like the Dinah-mite #48694. Its been a real joy to recreate her.

1-24-2019 An exchange student from our Sister City, Hanamaki Japan, came out to see us fly & learn a little about model aviation.
